“Nah. You were just drawn in by my natural charm.” Virgil grinned at her. ” I’m one of the biggest geeks on my block. I’m pretty surprised that you never noticed.”
“Not at all” She shook her head, maybe she needed more practice with observational skills. “It’s not like you have ‘I’m a nerd’ stamped to your forehead.” Cassie always wore superhero stuff out and about, even if it wasn’t Wonder Woman gear.
Virgil laughed mirthlessly. “It’s not like I needed extra help with the getting shoved into lockers thing. You learn to blend in.”
“…I’m sorry that happened to you” She couldn’t do much to stop it, but that still didn’t make it right. “I never really had friends at school either. I was kinda of a freak. All girls school can be rough…its just a different ball game”
”I have Star Trek poster’s all over my walls Girl. As far as I’m concerned you’re only uncool because you chose the wrong space based franchise to become attached too.”
“No way! You’re a Trekkie?” This was probably one of the first times Cassie had gotten a chance to really talk and get to know Virgil. But Star Wars, way cooler than Star Trek. “You always seemed way too cool for any of that stuff. And uh, no way Star Wars is cooler.”

Cassie eyed his hand warily and carefully shook his hand. She didn’t want to reveal anything or accidentally break it with her strength. “You know there were some vampires that were pirates way back when” She deadpanned. It was almost scary that she believed herself.
“For real. I did this to show a lot of guys I know up. There’s that whole attitude that girls aren’t hardcore enough to surf.” That wasn’t why she learned how to surf by any means but that opinion was still out there.
“Aw, man, really?” Kyle asked. “There’s tons of girls that surf down in LA. You ever gone down there? A lot hotter than it is here.”
“Vampire pirates. That’s a comic I should draw for my next illustration class. I bet my profs would love it!”
“Nah it’s cool this place is the homeland” The walk to the beach wasn’t too painfully unbearable, this Kyle guy actually wasn’t so bad. “So you’re an artist? That’s cool” It was both Dru and Cassie talking as she wasn’t the best of artists herself. “And you do comics?”
“Yeah,” La’gaan said. “But I understand where you’re coming from. Until M’gann got me that charm, I wasn’t allowed to go out in public. I was too much of a freak.”
“Yeah but it’s so hard…pretending that you’re something…someone you’re not” She looked down at her attire, “This isn’t me. I don’t love …what is this? My Chemical Romance?”
“You have a chemical romance?” La’gaan asked. “What’s that mean? Do you drink love potions or something?”
Love potions were totally a thing. He saw it on movies several times.
“No no I don’t drink love potions” Were love potions actually a thing? Well she supposed with all of the magic and the worlds strangest family tree that it had to be real. After all Aphrodite was her Aunt. “My Chemical Romance is a band…it’s music”
“You don’t think it’s weird?” Roy didn’t understand what was so great about Harrison Ford in Indiana Jones or as Han Solo. Cassie couldn’t even get him to watch the Star Wars movies. “Yup! That’s totally sand, I can’t even get a bucket to overturn and stay all together”
“Why would it be weird? It’s Harrison Ford. he’s a pretty big name. Everyone has seen his movies.”
“That’s what I said!” Cassie shook her head, “Sorry I get a little attached to my favorite movies. I’m not really the coolest person on the block”

“I can’t imagine why” Cassie blinked as he kept talking, was this how she sounded when she was fangirling all over people? “I don’t think I’ve introduced myself, Kyle, I’m Dru”
“Nice to meet you, Dru,” Kyle smiled and stuck his hand out to shake. “So how did you end up mixing goth stuff and surfing?”
